Position Summary

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.

 

The Director of Prospect Management is an integral member of a Strategic Planning and Analytics Management (SPAM) team whose purpose is to follow standard practices for identification and engagement with prospective donors to support NYU’s mission. The SPAM team ensures frontline fundraisers receive the necessary resources and support to secure the external funding that will allow NYU to achieve its aspirations and sustain its excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship in perpetuity. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Strategic Planning and Analytics and collaborates closely with all UDAR teams who are working to support fundraising efforts across campus, particularly Advancement Services, IT Services, Prospect Research, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Annual Giving, all frontline fundraisers across the University, and the UDAR leadership Core Team, to ensure that prospective donors receive coordinated communications and gift solicitations that reflect their interests, inclination, and capacity.

 

The Director of Prospect Management sets strategic direction for effective management, measurement, and analysis of movements of NYU’s Alumni, donors and prospects through the fundraising pipeline to support the ambitious fundraising goals set for UDAR. Using their own expertise and industry best practices, the director will proactively develop, refine, implement, and lead processes and workflows to dramatically increase the active engagement with prospects with capacity to support NYU at the $10M+ Gift Capacity level. In order to position all frontline fundraisers for success so that fundraising goals are met, this position provides critical direction in the active management of top prospects, optimizing fundraiser portfolios, implementing methods to evaluate portfolio productivity, monitoring fundraiser activity, and ensuring the effective capture of relationship management data. The director will hire, manage, mentor, and train a team of prospect management analysts. The Director of Prospect Management is also a member of the UDAR leadership team that helps inform the strategic vision for UDAR’s next phase of fundraising, campaign preparation, and data management.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree

Required Experience:
7+ years directly job-related experience within a University Development setting and/or non-University environment

Preferred Experience:
10+ years progressively responsible work experience in Prospect Research or Prospect Management including 3 years in a supervisory capacity

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Understanding of fundraising in a complex organization, preferably higher education

Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams

Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment

Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Ability to interact with leadership

Ability to manage priorities of multiple simultaneous projects

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Skill in managing multiple high priority projects with attention to detail and execution in a timely manner

Experience with donor databases and understanding of relational databases
