Lead, train, and assist building service staff in inspecting, operating, maintaining and repairing building systems and equipment to perform safely and efficiently; respond to and complete client work requests; delegate tasks and work assignments to staff; ensure compliance with guidelines and work rules; perform preventive maintenance duties and routines, and provide other building-related services as required. Assist in collecting data, implementing tasks and maintaining data for a work order system.
Required Education:
High School Graduate. FDNY Certification.
Preferred Education:
Trade School or other post-secondary education. NYC Refrigeration License.
Required Experience:
Ten years relevant experience as building operator, building engineer, handyperson or other tradesperson.
Preferred Experience:
At least two years experience in a supervisory role at institutes/businesses of higher education, health care, telecommunications or other sensitive facilities where high levels of performance and reliability are required.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of building systems; equipment; proper operating conditions; maintenance routines and standards. Good written and verbal communications skills, good interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge/familiarity with computer applications such as email. Positive attitude, willingness to collaborate and team with others to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards. Proficient in English (e.g., reading directions and instructions written in English). Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb a ladder, work in small, cramped spaces, and in outdoor environments and elements. Basic computer skills (e.g. MS Excel, MS word, etc.). Building Automation Systems Graphics User Interface.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of University and department policies, processes, and quality standards. Understanding of NYC building/Fire Department codes as they refer to building systems (e.g. life-safety equipment, etc.). Basic knowledge of a facilities work order software and system (e.g. run reports, utilize reports, etc.).
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate range for this position is $45.871-$55.871.
