Position Summary

Develop procedures and performs fire and life safety inspections, training and consultation to ensure that Campus facilities, work procedures, research protocols/or scientific research laboratories, art facilities, comply with federal and local laws, results, policies and procedures that regulate one of several safety compliance specialties. Specialties include fire and life safety, fire protection and fire engineering design, safety and health compliance (OSHA), chemical safety, and hazardous waste. Manages the safety and Compliance Program for New York University and acts as a representative with regulatory agencies as necessary in working to correct the violation. Collaborates with Facility Managers and FM Global to ensure recommendations made during inspections are responded to. Works with client, including architect to bring plans into compliance. Manage all required inspections to ensure cradle-to-grave compliance. Assess and monitor University buildings at all site locations for life safety including alarm systems, standpipe and sprinkler systems.


Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Engineering

Required Experience:
3-5 years relevant experience

Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of NYC Violation programs and requirements for corrections. Experience in an Academic setting

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Good working knowledge in OSHA, EPA, FDNY and DOB. Experience creating and managing databases with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & Powerpoint. Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal with all levels of employees within the University and with representatives from outside organizations. Excellent follow-up skills required.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Safety regulatory requirements within New York City as well as global locations.
