Position Summary

This is a grant funded position that operates 10 months per year. Provide four-handed chairside assistance to dental hygienists and practitioners in New York City public schools for the PCORI research program. Perform tests; assist with dispensing medications and instructions, and performing minor dental and surgical procedures; ensure safe use, disposal, and storage of
chemicals or hazardous materials; and infection control. Serve as clinic receptionist and clinic cashier: greet and announce patients and visitors. Register new patients, monitor patient flow, and seat and discharge patients. Assist with set up, take down, and moving of clinical equipment and supplies into and out of elementary schools. Maintain patient files and charts. Respond to a variety of routine inquiries and provide information regarding policies, procedures, fees, and payment schedules. Contact and schedule patients for examinations. Expedite treatment of patients with emergencies. May assist with training and reviewing work of student and/or casual employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:
Certification as a Dental Assistant.

Required Experience:
Graduate of a Dental Assistant Training Program or 1-2 years of related experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of four-handed chairside dental techniques and dental lab equipment. Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Interest or experience in public health, community outreach, and/or short-term dental missions. Knowledge of a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Korean, Chinese).
