Position Summary

As a member of the High Performance Computing (HPC) team the Research Cloud Specialist works closely with NYU faculty and research groups to develop and adapt cloud technologies to complement the advanced research computing technologies and resources available onsite. Responsibilities include design, implementation, and support for scaling-up in-house, centrally available NYU HPC, Big Data, and data management capabilities to a cloud infrastructure to take advantage of cloud-native technologies such as, on demand computing, container management, and server-less computing. The Research Cloud Specialist will work closely with NYU IT Cloud Services teams and the research community to provide ongoing testing, benchmarking, support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of research cloud applications. This position will help develop documentation and training material, and perform in-person consultations, to assist NYU scholars and their collaborators to efficiently utilize the public cloud, and cloud-native technologies in their research and teaching. This role may direct the work of student employees.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field

Required Experience:
3+ years experience of deploying, managing, and using public cloud technologies. applications. Experience in workflows, resource managers, usage and systems’ health monitoring, and data transfer tools.

Preferred Experience:
3+ years having a record of successes in architecting systems in Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or other public cloud offerings. 3+ years Experience working in an academic research environment. 3+ years Experience with cloud automation and build pipelines. 3+ years Experience with Kubernetes and GKE. 3+ years Experience with building secure data environments in-house on public clouds.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Proven expertise with the Linux OS, bash, and python scripting. Domain expertise in GCP, AWS, Azure, and other public cloud offerings. Experience with design, building and deploying containers Proven expertise in cloud architecture. Drive to continually expand knowledge in the areas of new technological developments and trends. Ability to present technical concepts in clear manner to customers through demos, proposals and presentations.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with Cloud provisioning and configuration management tools (ex. Terraform, Packer, Ansible). Proficient with programming languages such as Python and Go. Previous engagement in cloud bursting. Certified in GCP, AWS and other public cloud offerings
