  • Position Summary

    This position will provide strategic and hands-on leadership within the Office of Student Affairs for programming, outreach, systems and technology that support data-driven interventions and holistic support for students. Serving as a strategic and operational champion to drive key student outcomes, the incumbent will inform and act on factors impacting student retention and graduation from academic progress, policy alignment, resource utilization and financial support, to student satisfaction and sense of belonging. Develop and implement strategic processes and initiatives designed to foster student success while fully supporting the mission, vision, and values of New York University. The position will play a vital role in supporting the Steinhardt’s retention and graduation goals. Provide guidance and support to Academic Advisors for undergraduate, graduate and on-line students in all Steinhardt Academic Departments. Provide practical information and coordinate information related to Student Success and resources for Academic Advisors to utilize in their meetings with students. Serve as primary point of contact between the Office of Student Affairs and the Academic Advisors. Manages the onboarding of academic advisors, professional development opportunities for academic advisors, and makes recommendations to enhance Academic Advising practices at Steinhardt.

    Required Experience:
    7+ years Progressively responsible professional experience in enrollment management and/or student success-related areas in a higher education environment

    Preferred Experience:
    Must have excellent interpersonal skills, exercise strong organizational and time-management skills and complete all tasks with superior attention to detail. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Broad understanding of academic advising, student services, student information systems and data, and other administrative functions; General knowledge of various student retention models and the means by which to assess those models; An understanding of the current research, including promising practices, in student success and retention, student transition and development, behavioral science, and community and belonging in order to effectively make an impact on key goals and outcomes; An analytical understanding of the factors impacting student retention, satisfaction and graduation rates and the ability to use that analysis to recommend, create and implement practical interventions and process improvements are essential to success in this role. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences including students and their families, advisors, faculty and other administrators.
