The College of Arts and Science is seeking a dynamic Academic Advisor for Second Year and Student Engagement Initiatives. This individual will be part of the College Cohort Program team and work collaboratively to develop a comprehensive second year experience program focusing on developing and executing academic and co-curricular programs to support and engage students in key developmental aspects of the second college year. Advise and counsel a significant cohort of first year students, serving as the primary advisor until they declare their major, and remaining as a support and resource person throughout their undergraduate career. Provide overview of curriculum, policies and procedures. Assist with program development and implementation of one of the College's comprehensive academic support programs (e.g. First-Year/Freshman and Transfer Orientation and Advising; Sophomore Cohort President development and selection; Second-year class activities & programming; etc.) to ensure it meets the current needs of students. Analyze data received through student inquiries, market research, and input and recommend new programs and courses to meet changing needs. Assist in the implementation of marketing events to recruit students for admissions into College's Programs, including developing information sessions and open houses, and attending university-wide and external events. Serve as liaison with faculty and other University personnel, and representing the Dean and the College to internal and external constituencies.
Bachelor's degree and
MA in higher education/student affairs strongly preferred.
2-3 years of experience in counseling, advising, student services, program development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in an academic environment, orientation, transition programs and sophomore programming.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to interpret and communicate policies to individuals at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
