Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Government Affairs, this position partners with the Senior Vice Provost for Research and Director of Sponsored Programs in advancing the university’s research capabilities and promoting research accomplishments. Primary goals of the position are to 1) Identify the advancement of both large university-wide and faculty-specific research funding opportunities, 2) Build and strengthen relationships and strategic partnerships with key individuals at the research funding agencies, science policy organizations and the U.S. Congress, and 3) Increase internal and external awareness of research successes at NYU to show investments in research lead to economic growth, increased health outcomes and a more educated citizenry. The position will interact internally with NYU research administrators, government affairs, public affairs and representatives of different schools throughout the university.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: 5+ years relevant professional level experience working in a governmental agency, working for an elected official, or working in the government relations office of a non-profit organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience: Experience with a federal research agency or research advocacy organization.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills and strong research and writing skills are required. Ability to effectively interact with government officials. Ability to travel.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of the workings of the federal scientific research agencies.
