  • Position Summary

    The NYU Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) provides pre-award and non-financial post award research administration service and support in sponsored programs administration to faculty, Investigators, and other researchers in academic units and provostial centers and institutes conducting research and undertaking other sponsored activities. The Associate Director (AD) for OSP reports to and will serve as a thought partner to the Senior Director of OSP. The AD supports the Senior Director in oversight of all staffing, budget, and operations of the OSP functional areas including proposal development, award management, contracts and subaward collaborations, international projects and AFAR, regulatory and sponsor compliance related to the conduct of sponsored projects, and research business intelligence platforms and systems supporting system to system proposal submission and award management and research and sponsored programs metrics and reporting. The AD provides direct supervision for OSP communications and traffic management and 3 Assistant Directors of functional areas of responsibility within the OSP including Proposal Development, Award Management, and Contracts & Collaborations. Provides leadership and mentorship to 17 full time staff members of the OSP with shared responsibility for pre-award research administration for the Washington Square campus (all divisions except NYU School of Medicine and Langone Medical Center) as well as the global campuses including NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai (with the exception of UAE and Chinese government sponsors which are overseen by research administration at the respective global campuses). The AD serves as liaison to other administrative offices supporting sponsored activities at the University including and in particular the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration, NYU’s post award finance administration. The AD supports and resources systems integration analysis, planning and development for pre- to post award processes through NYU’s CAYUSE grants management to FAME financial systems. They contribute to business process improvement to ensure proper stewardship of extramural funding and compliance with federal regulatory compliance requirements, sponsor specific rules, and NYU policies and procedures related to research. AD holds delegated authority to evaluate and endorse proposals and provides assurances, representations, and certifications on behalf of the University more than 1800 proposals and signatory for more than 1700 awards totaling over $280M annually in secured external funding support for research, teaching, training, service and other sponsored activities supported by public, private and foreign sponsors. The Associate Director collaborates with the Senior Director and OSP senior staff in assessment of appropriateness of University programs and ensuring conformity with federal, sponsor specific and University policies regarding academic, budgetary and administrative components. Recommends modifications where necessary.


    Required Education:
    Bachelor's Degree and or equivalent

    Required Experience:
    7+ years

    Preferred Experience:
    5+ years at a major research institution in a senior staff position.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Extensive knowledge of government regulatory policy and implementation for funded projects. Ability to interact professionally with all levels of University personnel, as well as the research administration and funding agency community. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
