  • Position Summary

    The Division of Programs in Business in the School of Professional Studies is seeking an Academic Advisor to advise a minimum of 250 credit students on academic programs, policies and procedures (course selection, program/concentrations, internship process, withdrawal policy, leaves of absence, study abroad programs, summer studies). Other responsibilities include: guide students in identifying career goals and aspirations, assist them in choosing courses and programs that link academic planning to career and professional objectives. Assist students in identifying problems and consequences and recommend action plans to students. Interpret University and School policies and procedures; recommend exceptions to policies. Approve routine drop/add and recommend approval of late registration, refunds, course withdrawal past deadline, high course load, and extension on make-up for incomplete grade contracts. Analyze current advisement practices and make recommendations to Associate Director to improve services and prevent problems.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:
    Bachelor's degree

    Preferred Education:
    Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or related

    Required Experience:
    2 years' relevant experience in student advising or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Experience:
    Experience advising students at the college or university level.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to supervise staff. Ability to advise and provide solutions to problems. Knowledge of standard office software. Oral presentation and strong writing skills. Ability to resolve problems in a timely manner.

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to manage multiple projects and work with diverse studentS.
