This position is intended to provide Audio Visual Engineering deployment subject matter expertise across NYU as an institution. It exists to aid in the planning, execution, and commissioning of audio visual and videoconferencing projects for NYU internal clients. This individual will act as a project leader throughout the entire project lifecycle until commissioning signoff, as such the expectation will be that the engineer will be cooperative, diplomatic, and ultimately work as a, “servant leader,” throughout the process.
Required Education: Bachelor degree or equivalent experience and training.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are both preferred for this role, but demonstrated aptitude and field education may be suitable substitutions depending on the given candidate. Engineer must be able to demonstrate intellectual curiosity, academic rigor, and decisiveness.
Required Experience: 5+ years designing and / or installing complex audio visual systems on an enterprise level.
Preferred Experience: Ideally the candidate will demonstrate a career of growth from a successful on-site support role to that of a successful Audio Visual Engineer.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Deep understanding of AV over IP regarding the following product lines: Crestron, Cisco (network and videoconferencing), Polycom videoconferencing, Extron, Evertz, and NewTek. Must be able to successfully design and assess systems for appropriate placement and sizing loudspeakers, monitors and projectors, cameras, and microphones. Ability to quickly diagram systems of moderate complexity then refine the design later on. Must be able to handle situations of deep operational and institutional complexity with grace, candor, and end user focus. Audio Visual project management experience.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Applied concepts in acoustics and lighting (control and layout). Moderate to deep understanding of Audio Visual systems programming. Medical Simulation. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.
