The New York University Tandon School of Engineering invites applications from energetic individuals to serve as Associate Director for Assessment and Institutional Research.
Successful candidates are expected to have strong analytical and conceptual problem solving skills with a working knowledge of data management and data analysis software; using query
tools (relational databases) and multi-dimensional concepts. The Candidate must have advanced Microsoft Access and Excel skills and experience with databases such as MS SQL and Oracle
preferred. Ability to operate and customize standard office equipment to produce a wide variety of customized reports utilizing Tableau and OBIEE Data Warehouse Reporting & Dashboard
software. Candidates must also have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to supervise part time student employees during peak activities. In addition to the many
aspects of institutional research in an academic environment the successful candidate must have knowledge and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes and accreditation
requirements, particularly ABET accreditation of engineering programs.
Manages institutional research workflow and provide status reports to the Director.
Supports the Institutional Research Office’s core activity of capturing, extracting,
analyzing, and reporting data on faculty, students, staff and other critical academic,
physical and financial information for leadership (university wide, chancellor, and school
operations) decision-making purposes and external reporting requirements. Plans,
coordinates and implements complex data analyses, works with the Director or IR to
Works closely with both academic and administrative offices and individuals to create,
refine and maintain effective use of academic data.
Collaborates with University’s Data Warehouse Integration team, NYU Tandon’s Human
Resources, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Grants and Sponsored Research
offices to facilitate in identifying, correcting and cleaning NYU Tandon’s legacy datasets
in the current NYU Data Warehouse Systems that feed the University Deans’ Dashboards
pertaining to Human Resources, Grants, Sponsored Research, Student Reporting, and
Faculty Teaching Loads.
Participate as one of the Core Users for the University’s Data Warehouse Reporting
systems to ensure data integrity and NYU Tandon’s current and future data needs for
Design Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for NYU Tandon and track them for effective
administrative integration with other Schools within NYU and also with the Central
Develops, manages, and maintains systems for collecting data important to central
administration, school, and departmental administration, and faculty, in partnership with a
Maintains Databases to longitudinally track student progress through the institute from
admission to post baccalaureate activities.
Delivers and maintains data reports, ensure data integrity, and reconcile data discrepancies.
Collaborates with key individuals and administrative offices on establishing clear,
evidentiary connections between student learning outcomes and retention with the aim of
Assists academic administration and faculty in creating and refining a comprehensive
academic assessment plan by developing and documenting clear student learning and
administrative outcomes in all instructional programs and support areas.
Develops and maintains effective studies, surveys, and evaluations, including academic
program reviews, course evaluations, senior exit interviews, and data essential for retention
and attrition studies.
Assists NYU Tandon’s Assessment Committee in facilitating and developing reports for
the Self-Study and review for Reaccreditation by ABET.
Design, create and maintain customized end-of-semester Student Course Evaluations.
Numbering approximately 700, these custom course evaluations are unique to each specific
course/subject in any given semester. Generating customized Instructor and Departmental
reports based upon the results and needs of the Departments’ Assessment Teams.
Creates reports, presentations, and publications based on the data analyses conducted.
Ensures deadlines for projects met within established time frames.
Completes work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of

Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in Statistics, Computer Science, Business/Management or Engineering fields
• 5-7 years’ experience in research design. • Prior experience in Regional Accreditation; specifically Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). • Prior experience in Discipline-Specific Accreditation; specifically Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
Data collection and retrieval, statistical analysis, and reporting. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Proficient with Microsoft office suite (especially in EXCEL & ACCESS), statistical software packages (SPSS), and ad hoc reporting tools. • Proficient in PL/SQL, SQL Server, Database Management, Web Database Maintenance, and Content Management. • Proficient in developing Crystal Reports and Dashboards. • Proficient in Business Objects • Proficient in Project Management skills. • Experience in Hyperion Intelligence Reporting. • Experience in Data warehousing & PeopleSoft. • Having extensive knowledge of innovative and state-of-the-art principles, emerging theories, the current federal and state laws and associated rules, regulations and interpretations and system’s associated with compliance with government grants and contracts regulations.

• Ability to develop short- and long-term plans of actions, understand problems from a broad perspective and use conventional and unconventional reasoning to discern underlying principles and issues to create innovative solutions. • Proficient knowledge of federal & state regulations applicable to higher education. • Proficient knowledge of higher education, or non-profit organization administration systems and rules & regulations. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Able to present complex information to senior administrators in a non-technical manner.
