  • Position Summary

    Manage the day to day operations of the VFL MakerSpace, a state of the art prototyping facility housed in NYU Tandon’s newly-launched Veterans Future Lab (VFL). The VFL is a business incubator that empowers aspiring and practicing entrepreneurs who are US Military Veterans or their spouses. The VFL MakerSpace will highlight new kinds of iterative, interdisciplinary teamwork using new tools of rapid prototyping and digitally driven production. In addition to providing access to modern tools, from advanced software to milling machines to 3D printers to laser cutters, this position will function as a stimulating environment for fostering human exchanges and collaborative learning; it will also create a participatory space for design projects created by those affiliated with the VFL MakerSpace. This position will shape programs and product offerings; develop and propose workshops, events, membership offerings, and new program elements. Work with faculty administrators and advising committee regarding operations, financials, improvements, and challenges.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:
    Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Preferred Education:
    Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Required Experience:
    3-5 years’ relevant experience or an equivalent combination required. Related experience in the operation, maintenance and repair in design and / or maintenance and operations of large mechanical systems, renovation and construction projects in an academic institution or business setting with a proven track record in administration and event management. Experience with laboratory and shop safety procedures and training.

    Preferred Experience:
    Teaching experience including K-12 and / or university level preferred. Military experience a plus.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Familiarity with best practices in entrepreneurship education and programming. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Working knowledge and experience in DIY and maker market and / or advanced manufacturing or rapid prototyping including 3D printers, laser cutters, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), lathes, milling, injection molding, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication and testing. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and knowledge of other PC programs. Demonstrated talent for and delight in using your hands and mind to create things and solve problems. Creative, strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects. Must be able to comprehend and follow a diverse set of verbally communicated operational procedures with little guidance or training, self-manageable.

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Proven track record in customer service.
