The NYU Steinhardt Office of Academic Affairs is seeking an Institutional Research Analyst to provide data and reporting support that can inform decision-making and contribute to ongoing institutional improvement at Steinhardt. The position will manage NYU Steinhardt’s special project institutional research needs using available university data and working directly with deans and senior administration to meet the long- and short-term strategic planning needs of the school. The position will use the student information systems (Peoplesoft) and an institutional data warehouse (custom built SQL platform) to manage the collection and analysis of data on school, department, and program levels for improving institutional effectiveness, efficiency, resource allocation and teaching and learning. The position will lead the development of custom and standardized reports on dynamic dashboards to inform and guide institutional research and will provide support and guidance with federal and state reporting and accreditation self-studies. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and detail-oriented, thrives in a collaborative space, and can nimbly switch between priority tasks.
Bachelor’s degree in a social science discipline or higher education. Masters' degree strongly preferred.
Advanced degree in higher education, statistics, policy, economics, data analytics, information systems, business, or a related social or behavioral science field preferred.
Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in research design, data collection and retrieval, statistical analysis and reporting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with information systems, database management, institutional research, and data analytics. Experience with quantitative analysis, data visualization and infographics.
Experience working with universities, hospitals, banking and/or other large complex data-driven, performance-based institutions.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Effective verbal and written communication skills, organizational and graphic presentation skills, and the ability to write and communicate data-rich reports that are easily understood by various stakeholders. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and security procedures regarding the use and storage of confidential data. Knowledge of and experience with SPSS, Stata, UDW+ , student information systems or client management systems or comparable data analytic software and proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, survey software, and other software to summarize and present data. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects, working independently and collaboratively across multiple data sources, systems, and stakeholders to meet deadlines.
