  • Position Summary

    The Assistant Director, Physical Security Technology is responsible for field technology operations and support. Reporting to the Director, Technical Operations & Support the role interfaces with clients and partners at all levels of the University to ensure successful delivery of field technology projects initiated by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and maintain excellence in the support and maintenance of security technology in the field. Responsibilities include project planning and management; systems engineering; vendor engagement to estimate and deliver assigned scope; initiation of assigned projects, and supervision of technical staff. Manages quality, cost, and schedule of assigned projects to ensure delivery of maximum value according to departmental standards and within committed project budget. Position is key interface with project clients and is responsible for maximizing satisfaction, safety, and quality on all assigned projects. This role supervises the technical staff responsible for both project technical support and coordinating enterprise-wide maintenance of physical security technology in the field.


    Required Education:
    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

    Preferred Education:
    Master’s Degree or equivalent certifications; Physical Security Professional (PSP) Certification.

    Required Experience:
    Minimum of 5 years' experience and expertise in relevant field engineering and/or project management, including complex projects involving multiple functional groups or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience reviewing and interpreting basic blueprints, schematics, and other specifications to engage vendors in scoping projects; extensive experience interpreting manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams in the management of vendors delivering security technology projects. Experience in IP based access control and video management systems. Minimum of three years of managing staff and/or project teams, providing strong customer service, and navigating enterprise procurement processes.

    Preferred Experience:
    Experience working with security technology and/or information technology in a Higher Education context. Experience with Lenel Access Control and Genetec video systems. Experience working with relevant security assessment standards: ISO 31000, ISO 31010, and/or ANSI/ASIS/RIMS RA.1-2015.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Proven knowledge and application of project management, security systems engineering, design specification, and related tools and systems. Proven ability to scope, manage and deliver on projects and control costs. Excellent planning, analytical and problem solving skills. Effective people management and negotiation skills and ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams. Strong and professional written and verbal communication skills. Basic knowledge and understanding of IT networking principles for the purpose of liaising with internal and external IT service providers.

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    Project Management Professional certification. Industry- and product-specific certifications and/or licenses.
