Position Summary

The Director, Portfolio Management and Strategic Alignment is responsible for overseeing the NYU IT Governance Office and all related strategic and programmatic activities, including guiding the development of long-term plans, institutionalizing Project and Portfolio Management best practices and standards and maturing capabilities. The Director will collaborate with other leaders within the enterprise to develop and deliver solutions to help NYU IT achieve its mission and goals. S/he will be responsible for leading and developing a high-performing and service-oriented team, while striving for continuous improvement in all IT Governance functions.


Required Education:
Bachelor's degree, PMP certification or equivalent combination of certification or experience

Preferred Education:
• Master's degree or equivalent experience • Process improvement/design certification, such as 6-sigma

Required Experience:
10+ years of experience in project, program or portfolio management 5+ years working in Information Technology or PMO 5+ years of management/supervisory experience preferably in a nonprofit or higher education environment. Minimum of 4 years' experience leading project portfolio management (PPM) in a PMO environment. At least 2 years' experience working in the nonprofit sector; Higher Education experience a plus.

Preferred Experience:
• Experience in setting up a project management office • Experience working on large scale global IT projects

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Proven success in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a PMO • Strong experience of optimizing the use of project planning tools and portfolio management tools • Track record of superior creativity and problem solving abilities • Proven collaborative, negotiation, and persuasion skills • Impeccable presentation, verbal and written communication skills • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data and information to provide a high-level view which is accessible to a range of audiences • Experience with and a level of comfort in working across departments, across cultures and with internal and external stakeholders • Aptitude for a fast paced, diverse work environment
