Direct the business and financial operations of NYU Press and advise the Director on the financial and operational health of the organization, including risks and opportunities. Develop annual and long-term budgets and recommendations for annual Principal’s Budget meeting and provide financial input into development of Press’ strategic plan, and the university’s annual Academic Plan. Prepare monthly budget vs. actual analyses and month-end and year-end closing activities and financial reconciliations, ensuring an accurate statement of all business activity. Prepare monthly and annual income statements and balance sheets with variance analysis; analyze expenditures by department and make recommendations regarding resource allocation. Administer NYUP grants and subventions. Supervise Business Department including accounts payable, billing and collections, royalties, digital asset management and inventory control. Oversee Production Department; develop company-wide workflows, monitor inventory and plant expenditures. Manage operational relationships with third party distributor Ingram Academic Services and the Press’ distribution clients. Serve as principal liaison with Library IT Department. Work closely with Division of Libraries Office of Budget and Planning to ensure fiscal adherence to University policies and procedures. This position dually reports to the Director, NYU Press and the Asst. Dean of Budget & Planning for the Division of Libraries.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
MBA or CPA preferred
5 years or more relevant experience in publishing environment. Must include experience with accounting, finance, budgeting and staff supervision. Must include experience with financial analysis, financial reporting, training and audits, Thorough knowledge of GAAP requirements required.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to analyze, interpret and communicate a variety of financial information to individuals at all levels. Excellent organizational and negotiation skills and ability to resolve complex problems. Strong financial management, accounting, auditing, analytical, interpersonal and writing skills. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. Familiarity with Acumen software a plus.
