Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations, the Senior Director of Alumni Relations will spearhead domestic and global alumni outreach programs and services for the entirety of NYU’s 500,000 living alumni. In this role, he/she will provide strategic direction and manage a team of nine (+) reports in alignment with the unit's overarching mission of alumni engagement. This individual serves in a critical leadership role, providing strategic and analytical planning as well as managing the day to day operations of the Alumni Relations events team. She/He will oversee the planning and implementation of NYU Alumni signature events around the world, and leading to the creation of new and innovative programming in alumni relations. This individual will develop strategies and operational plans resulting in a consolidated approach to domestic and global outreach programs and services, and manage a team responsible for creating and delivering alumni programming with the goals of engaging alumni, parents, faculty and students in the cultural, intellectual and academic life of NYU, as well as building the fundraising pipeline. He or she will travel both domestically and globally each semester (e.g. fall, spring and summer) to identify, cultivate and train alumni leaders and volunteers and manage relationships with senior administrators. The Senior Director, will oversee the development of over 600 events and programs globally; create policies, protocols and procedures for the activities of regional and international clubs and chapters; and work across the University's schools and divisions to connect all alumni and students as alumni-in-training. The Senior Director will manage relationships with senior Administrators and departments across the University with Student Affairs, Admissions, Career Services, and other operational areas to develop opportunities to connect alumni and alumni-in-training to NYU. The Senior Director manages an annual budget of up to $2,000,000 relating to Alumni Engagement and programs. The Senior Director will represent the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations and New York University at designated meetings, alumni events and functions, and works collaboratively with UDAR staff, Directors of Development and the NYU community to support the mission of the institution. He/she will foster productive working relationships within the University community, including deans, faculty, schools, central administration, Global site leaders and University Relations and have a strong presence within the University community.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Masters preferred.

Required Experience:
7+ years’ experience with alumni relations, volunteer management, and special events management in a higher education setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
Experience Experience in an academic, non-profit and/or fundraising environment. Experience working in a global and/or matrix

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Extensive alumni relations experience as well as management experience in a higher education setting. Experience with strategic planning, volunteer management, budget oversight, and events planning and execution. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks, meets deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to professionally interact with all levels of students, staff, faculty and alumni. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Familiarity with presentation software and desktop publishing applications. Supervision of direct reports and teams.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Proficiency with MS Office and Powerpoint. Exposure to fundraising software, such as Advance.
