The Student Technology Specialist will serve as the primary source of information regarding all services provided in NYU’s student technology centers. This position also provides training, guidance, and leadership for student workers in these facilities. Services encompass management and support for video production facilities; computer-based classrooms; group study spaces equipped with collaborative technology; gaming stations; NYU Print Service; Virtual Computer Lab, videoconferencing services and audio-visual equipment used to support University events. The position requires a strong and broad-based understanding of NYU IT services, especially as it relates to referral and escalation of support requests and incidents.
Bachelor’s degree in media, technology, the arts or related fields.
2-3 years professional experience providing information technology support.
3 or more years providing technical support and troubleshooting / diagnosis for hardware, software, system, and configuration issues in a complex, distributed environment. Experience in an academic environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience supporting students and/or faculty in the use one or more of the following: Google Apps for Education, Presentation Tools (Prezi, Keynote, PowerPoint), Streaming Video (Kaltura, Zoom), Web Publishing (WordPress, Wiki's), Screen Capture (Camtasia and Captivate), and Digital Media Applications (Adobe Creative Cloud, video and audio editing & encoding applications). Demonstrated solid, current knowledge of audio-visual and multimedia production processes. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality. Ability to be flexible in work assignments and work times that may require changing priorities regularly. Strong administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to meet project deadlines, stay on track, and communicate statuses and needs proactively. Self-starter with the ability to work in a highly collaborative team-based, fast-paced atmosphere with high standards for quality, accuracy, and innovation. Ability to be proactive, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and work with little supervision. A positive, cooperative attitude that is supportive of the University and its mission.
