Position Summary

Serve as a University-wide expert on LGBTQI+ student matters. Provide leadership, budget planning and monitoring of all LGBTQ programs, classes and workshops to enhance and create an inclusive campus environment supportive of diversity from an inter-sectional approach. Oversee student diversity services and programs; develop LGBTQ centric programs and activities. Provide counseling to students on diversity issues here on WSQ, Brooklyn campus, and globally. Oversee training to members of the University community on WSQ, in Brooklyn and globally on how to establish supportive environments and serve as advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students. Manage daily LGBTQ Student Center operations. Advise the AVP on matters pertaining to Intercultural and LGBTQ student affairs.


Required Education:
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or education related field.

Preferred Education:
Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration, or Gender & Sexuality Studies.

Required Experience:
5 years’ relevant experience working with college students in professional student affairs position related to diversity services and experience working with the LGBTQI+ community in the US and internationally. Proven track record for developing, managing and presenting diversity and gender/sexuality related curriculum-based programs from an intersectional approach. Experience with managing budgets, program evaluation and assessment.

Preferred Experience:
7 or more years' progressive experience in positions of increasing responsibilities pertaining to student advisement, program and events development, and a strong record of organization/community building whether in Student Affairs, academic settings, community based organizations, or NGOs. A national/international reputation in LGBTQI+ / gender and sexuality diversity education and demonstrated leadership experience working within multicultural or social justice based centers on a university campus within an urban setting. Experience managing budgets and supervising full-time professional staff. A proven track record for advancing institutional equity and inclusion for LGBTQI+ communities.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of gender and sexuality trends and issues within higher education in the US and globally. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop, implement, and interpret policies and procedures. Ability to offer consultation to colleagues surrounding diversity and LGBTQI+ related matters. Capacity to interact effectively with individuals at all levels. Knowledge of standard office applications.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong understanding of sexuality and gender identity college student development with an intersectional and global context. Knowledge of presentation and assessment based programs (e.g. PowerPoint, Qualtrics, Google Forms, Survey Monkey).
