Position Summary

The College of Arts and Science is seeking a dynamic Academic Advisor to join their team. This individual will advise and counsel a significant cohort of first-year students, serving as the primary advisor until they declare their major, and remaining as a support and resource person throughout their undergraduate career. Provide overview of curriculum, policies and procedures. Assist with program development and implementation of one of the College's comprehensive academic support programs (e.g. Freshman and Transfer Orientation and Advising; the College Learning Center; the Academic Achievement Program; Sophomore and/or Junior programming; Academic Standards; etc.) to ensure it meets the current needs of students. Analyze data received through student inquiries, market research, and input and recommend new programs and courses to meet changing needs. Assist in the implementation of marketing events to recruit students for admissions into College's Programs, including developing information sessions and open houses, and attending university-wide and external events; liaison with faculty and other University personnel, and representing the Dean and the College to internal and external constituencies.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree and

Preferred Education:
MA in liberal arts subject strongly preferred

Required Experience:
2-3 years experience in counseling, advising, student services, program development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in an academic environment

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to interpret and communicate policies to individuals at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
