Five years of relevant science fundraising experience in a major academic institution; evidence of ability to work successfully in close partnership and collaboration with faculty and to secure the confidence and trust of scientists, engineers, and researchers throughout the New York University. The individual must have extensive science knowledge, fine judgment, customer service orientation, and ability to understand/interpret scientific information to be credible with highly accomplished faculty. Resilience, determination, and dedication and exceptional interpersonal skills are critical qualities for success in this position. A key qualification is the ability to inspire and motivate NYU faculty to cooperate and provide the necessary information for GPHST fundraising efforts.Preferred Experience:
5-10 years’ experience as a scientist and/or science writer, preferably in an academic setting with a major science enterprise. Demonstrated track record in the preparation of successful highly technical scientific grants and proposals.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong scientific and technical writing skills, knowledge of scientific conventions regarding scientific aims and benchmarks, as well as research terminology, and a comfort level with and ability to understand and interpret highly technical information. Ability to discern the merit and scientific value of research projects and proposals. Must be able to present highly technical information and the benefits of scientific research in terms that can be understood by either a lay person with limited understanding of science, or a highly qualified research scientist.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to work with senior University leadership, Deans, faculty and fundraising staff across the University to effectively cultivate relationships among key constituencies. Must have an understanding of intellectual property and licensing. Must be able to work gracefully under pressure of very tight deadlines, be collegial, proactive, and a problem solver.
