Position Summary

The Assistant Director within the Enrollment Data Management and Governance team serves as a critical leadership tier for the Data Reporting and Analytics (DRA) team. Provide a high level of expertise, responsibility, and operational support for Data Management & Governance leadership. Execute the day-to-day responsibilities necessary to drive complex data initiatives and ensure the integrity and accessibility of GEMSS data, the foundation for much of NYU’s reporting and analytics. Establish and maintain scalable and sustainable data governance processes. Leverage strong project management skills and advanced strategic thinking to independently manage and deliver complex data initiatives. Key responsibilities include organizing, coordinating, and executing projects (including those related to risk management and compliance), allowing leadership to focus primarily on strategy, continuity, and sensitive risk mitigation efforts. This structure ensures continuity and scalability through effective delegation and coverage as the Data, Reporting, and Analytics (DRA) team matures.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Master's Degree

Required Experience:
5+ years in data analytics, data management, data governance, process improvement or equivalent experience.

7+ years in data analytics, data management, data governance, process improvement or equivalent experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strategic Project Management and Execution Skills: Strong analytical and project management skills. Proven ability to independently manage and deliver complex data initiatives. Able to successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under hard deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. A solution-focused approach to addressing complex systems. Ability to evaluate and implement technological improvements to meet best practices. Risk Mitigation and Governance Expertise: Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data in NYU systems. Ability to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to develop effective business relationships and build consensus with a wide range of constituencies. Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult issues and/or diverse organizations. Excellent judgment and experience managing confidential and sensitive information. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to meet key stakeholders’ needs. Ability to lead, without direct authority across organizational units.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of databases and data management with proficiency in ad hoc reporting/query writing and data manipulation (e.g., SQL, Tableau, OBIEE). In-depth knowledge of student data structures. Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and emerging technologies, with the ability to evaluate their appropriate application in data management while ensuring compliance with data governance, privacy, and institutional policie

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $90,000.00 to USD $110,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
