Position Summary

Manage day-to-day operations of Technical Support area for the Institute of Recorded Music: develop and implement operational and creative policies and practices to ensure student productions run smoothly and successfully and that the safety and security of faculty, students, facilities, and equipment is realized. Manage four full-time Recorded Music Technicians and serve as alternate manager for the Production Service Manager’s student-staff. Serve as technical liaison to Tisch CIT, supporting technical oversight of production and Staff/Faculty computers; Support intradepartmental Dante and NDI networks. Design and conduct technical workshops and seminars in response-to and adapted-to meet faculty and students’ needs; Ensure staff training is consistent with established industry and school curricular standards and related audio technologies. Oversee support, repair, maintenance and performance of moderate to complex equipment and software. Recommend production options to students and resolve complex problems. Supervise full-and part-time technical support and student employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience:
2+ years production facility operations management, budget administration and staff supervision experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
2+ years prior experience in an academic setting or professional recording studio.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills. Ability to communicate policies and procedures to individuals at all levels and use problem solving and negotiating skills. Proficiency with a wide range of current and traditional production technologies, software and equipment including Pro Tools, Logic, Dante, Ableton Live, Apple computers, large-format consoles (SSL, API, Neve), multi-track tape recorders and analog outboard gear. Must include experience in a recording studio/production environment.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to administer computer network, install software. Ability to handle tube and ribbon microphones. Excellent trouble-shooting and maintenance skills related to the operation/repair of complex analog and digital audio/visual equipment, including but not limited to: large-frame analog recording consoles, digital audio workstations, Mac and PC compatible operating systems, analog tape recorders, microphones, loudspeakers, and video projectors/monitors. Experience working with undergraduates and/or audio professionals.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $77,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
