Position Summary

Deliver immigration services for F-1 and J-1 students (“international students”), for international faculty, researchers, visiting scholars, J-1 student interns (“international scholars”) and for their dependents to permit lawful entry into the US. Advise on opportunities, rights and responsibilities under the law and refer to other University departments, attorneys, or governmental agencies as necessary. Counsel international students and scholars and their dependents on all personal, health, social, cultural, financial, and immigration matters related to their stay within NYU, including employment, travel, and community resources. Act as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in issuing required US government documents for international students and scholars and their dependents to obtain student or exchange visitor status, extend stay, apply for employment authorization, travel abroad. Collaborate with staff, schools, departments and outside organizations (including vendors) to plan and coordinate events, identifying themes or topics, planning agendas, scheduling presenters. Conduct informational workshops for international students and scholars and their dependents, and for university staff.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in higher education, cross-cultural communication, counseling, area or cultural studies, foreign language, TESOL.

Required Experience:
2+ years of relevant immigration regulations advisement and compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience training and presenting.

Preferred Experience:
3+ years of administering immigration and exchange visitor benefits (DSO/ARO) in a higher education setting.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of immigration, SEVIS, and exchange visitor requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate detailed instructions clearly. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Fluency in or familiarity with at least one language in addition to English. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Web-based applications. Completion of NAFSA F-1 and J-1 professional development Programs.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $72,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
