Position Summary

Liberal Studies is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director to join Academic and Faculty Affairs. This individual will manage course scheduling decisions and provide year-round administrative support for all classes in both Liberal Studies(LS) and Global Liberal Studies(GLS), including determination of faculty teaching assignments and the number and type of each course to offer. Impacts approximately 2,600 LS undergraduates enrolled in 600+ classes per academic year (including fall, spring, summer, and J-term), in both the 2-year Core Program and 4-year GLS B.A. Program. Assess course offering demands and trends via review of faculty teaching loads and course enrollment; determine areas of need for adjunct hiring by reviewing staffing and curricular offerings each semester, including summer; collaborate with Associate Director of Academic and Faculty Affairs to facilitate adjunct hiring. Identify and recommend new academic policies and procedures. Advise faculty on policies, procedures, and curriculum and resolve administrative issues. Supervise two employees.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in an appropriate field.

Required Experience:
3+ years relevant experience including planning and implementing administrative activities and staff supervision or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in higher education working with faculty.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to provide advice, creatively resolve problems, and interact with individuals at all levels in an academic setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Solid knowledge of MS Office Suite and other composition/file sharing tools (i.e. Google Docs, etc.), social media platforms, data-imaging and sound processing software.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $74,520.00 to USD $80,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
