Position Summary

This position, located at NYU Washington, DC reports to the Director of NYU Washington, DC, liaising with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for Liberal Studies. This role requires both teaching and administrative work, and will normally teach 4-7 courses per academic year (fall, spring, and summer), that primarily supports Liberal Studies (LS) students and their curriculum; provide student advising; collaborate with local staff; mentor LS local faculty; and coordinate academic and co-curricular events. They will facilitate effective communication between Washington, DC, and New York staff and faculty on behalf of LS. The Dean of Liberal Studies at NYU will have oversight of the academic planning and advising for Liberal Studies. The other courses will not be restricted to LS students but will be for the larger program at the site; depending on the needs of the students, it may be either a regular credit-bearing course or a non-credit course equivalent (e.g., a co-curricular series of writing workshops). As a key member of NYU DC with special responsibility for the first-year experience, including the academic orientation program, the Coordinator will facilitate connections between the New York portal campus and the Washington, DC academic center for faculty and students, facilitate student integration into the network through curricular and co-curricular initiatives, and design and implement professional development opportunities for local faculty.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Doctoral Degree A Ph.D. or other terminal degree in an appropriate field preferred by the date of appointment

Required Experience:
3+ years A minimum three years of university-level teaching experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching

Preferred Experience:
• Prior experience mentoring faculty, as well as experience in coordinating or overseeing administrative projects in a university setting, is desirable • Experience of teaching in liberal studies or general education, preferably with a global emphasis • Publications or other evidence of outstanding scholarship, creative work, or relevant professional activity

Understanding and empathy with needs and expectations of international students Team player with excellent interpersonal skills Strong organizational ability Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Excellent written & oral communication skills, with experience of addressing public audiences

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $85,600.00 to USD $105,600.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
