Position Summary

Provide technical support for the safe and efficient operation of advanced fabrication and art studio spaces. Perform skilled maintenance and extensive repairs on complex equipment and parts. Conduct shop safety sessions for all students. Develop in-depth documentation and instruction for all tools and equipment. Advise and assist students and faculty on equipment that best meets their technical and creative needs. Design and fabricate special projects for department spaces and events. Monitor student and faculty daily use of Shop and Studio to ensure safety protocols are followed. 

Qualifications

Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:
Associate of Applied Science Degree or related field.

Required Experience:
2+ years of relevant experience. Experience with operating fabrication equipment.

Preferred Experience:
Experience with Sewing Machines, CNC machines. Experience working in educational and experimental art studio environment. Experience with microcontrollers, soldering and hobby electronics. Experience with CAD software

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Ability to operate, clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various fabrication machines and technologies, including Laser Cutters, 3D Printers, Wood Shop, power tools and hand tools, such as Rotary, Miter, Jig and Band Saws, ShaperTools. Experience designing and fabricating various projects to meet the full department's needs. Ability to use measurement tools and read and understand blueprints and drawings. Experience in Technical Writing.


Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Strong work ethic. Organized and safety conscious. Assist new users to become adept at using fabrication tools and technologies. Ability to offer advice and best practice use of tools that help students realize their projects more productively.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $35.572. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
