Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Sustainability, Energy & Technical Services, the Manager of Grounds and Waste Management is responsible for the management of all general grounds/landscape design, installation, and maintenance activities as well as waste management activities on NYU’s New York City campuses. The Manager will develop and execute an overall grounds and waste management strategy and written plan for NYU sites, buildings and open spaces with the aims of continuous improvement, targeted sustainability, cost-effective use of both internal and external resources, and best practices in ecologically sound grounds and waste management. Responsible for the coordination of grounds maintenance and waste management work activity with service staff, student workers, volunteers, contractors, other campus services, various University departments, city and state agencies. Responsible for the design and plan review of new grounds/landscape projects and developing and maintaining design standards for both grounds and waste management. Responsibility for grounds/landscape project management coordinating designers, landscape architects, contractors, city and state agencies, and other entities. Responsible for all phases of grounds/landscape projects from site analysis, concept, design development, and construction documents to project completion. Responsible for coordinating with other University divisions, faculty, students and to demonstrate NYU’s stewardship of its outdoor sites and the responsible diversion of waste in accord with the University’s targeted sustainability aims and its teaching, research, and public service missions.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture/design, environmental science, or sustainability.

Preferred Education:
ISA Certified Arborist NYS DEC Pesticide license class 3(a)

Required Experience:
5 years of related experience in a large corporate or not for profit setting in the sustainability, recycling, or project management of building trade projects. A strong background in landscape design and maintenance, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies or science, business, or other related fields. Fluent in MS Office.

Preferred Experience:
5-7 years of management or project management experience, preferably in the recycling, grounds, or building trade areas.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills. Demonstrated history of problem solving and taking initiative. Strong interpersonal skills. The ability to multitask with strong analytical and organization skills is required. The ability to effectively work independently or collaboratively as a part of a team.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $102,827.32 to USD $122,827.32. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
