Position Summary

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.


The Chief of Staff to UDAR's Senior Vice President (SVP) is both a principal Aide to the SVP on all operational and administrative matters as well as a leader responsible for the coordination of communications and projects of the SVP team including supervision and management of SVP suite team members. Manage SVP suite team and advise the SVP on day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy of work, and optimizing the use of available resources. Collaborate and meet with the SVP team to provide leadership and direction for the SVP's strategic planning initiatives, communication process, office budget, project management, and program development. Manage a portfolio of special projects supporting the SVP's agenda to ensure that all other SVP team member's projects are effectively moving according to plan objectives and establish milestones. Act as liaison, develop and cultivate effective professional relationships, and interact independently with the University community, University Trustees, VIP donors, alumni and outside organizations to help further the fundraising and alumni engagement goals for the University. Act as an in-house writer for the SVP (e.g. talking points, speech writing, etc). Represent the voice of the SVP with internal and external constituencies. At times, represent the SVP team at select internal and external meetings with University administration and UDAR staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree

Required Experience:
7+ years progressively responsible experience in academic administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Proven ability to handle multiple priorities under deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail

Preferred Experience:
10+ years

Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and ability to maintain confidences are essential

Ability to develop, implement, and interpret policies and procedures

Prior experience with operational and staff supervision

Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, networking, leadership, project management, organization, and multitasking skills, along with strong research, and presentation skills

Ability to communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels

The incumbent must be able to appropriately respond to highly sensitive and confidential situations in person, (via telephone or via email) on behalf of the SVP

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $110,000.00 to USD $150,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
