Position Summary

The Director of Business Development and Partnerships will lead the growth of New York University’s industry-sponsored research portfolio. They will design, implement, and manage a strategic, comprehensive, and proactive plan to build and enhance meaningful relationships with regional, national, and global industry partners interested in sponsoring faculty research at NYU. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Research Planning and Analysis, the Director of Business Development and Partnerships will also integrate efforts into NYU’s larger strategic research plan. The position will require effective and collaborative working relationships across the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, including with Research Development, Technology Opportunities and Ventures, the Entrepreneurial Institute, Sponsored Programs, and Research Compliance, as well as with the University Development and Alumni Relations, Office of General Counsel, Government Relations, Communications, Provost’s Office, and School Deans and Vice Deans for Research, including those heading workforce development efforts.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree

Required Experience:
10+ years Ten years of experience in building research relationships or other strategic university-industry partnerships.

Preferred Experience:
10+ years Direct experience in a university corporate engagement position with identified successes in building partnerships with tangible results Experience working with intellectual property as a key part of a business relationship Understanding of the interplay between early-stage startups and corporate engagement

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing • Demonstrated knowledge of corporate sectors relevant to NYU’s research strengths and industry-sponsored research agreements • Supervisory and organizational abilities, and the ability to lead an area through service to others and by example • Self-motivated, self-starting, and able to conceive, plan, and execute on projects independently • Optimistic, positive, can-do attitude • Excellent attention to detail • Excellent listener and responsive to client needs • Team player • Ability to work collaboratively with disparate partners within and outside University • Excellent organizational skills

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $155,000.00 to USD $195,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
