Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Enhanced Education, the Instructional Technologist oversees, supports, and promotes the effective use of technology and design in online teaching, course, and program design at New York University's School of Global Public Health. Implements pedagogical best practices and support educational technologies needed to effectively execute course mission, aligning to departmental goals & objectives. Assists faculty with the creation and/or use of digital resources, including software, hardware, data, multimedia, and collaboration tools, to support the educational goals of the faculty, department, school, site, and University.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree In Instructional design, curriculum, and instruction, educational technology, instructional systems, education, or a closely related field.

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree In Instructional design, curriculum, and instruction, educational technology, instructional systems, education, or a closely related field

Required Experience:
5+ years Experience in the field of course development. Experience developing instructional materials for learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard, Sakai, and/or Canvas). Experience presenting, discussing, and applying educational theory into practice; working with faculty and students as well as other IT professionals. Developing and delivering workshops on distance education. Demonstrated professional experience in designing and developing user interfaces for dynamic websites. Experience developing instructional materials for learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Sakai, Brightspace and/or Canvas). Experience with one or more web content management systems, such as Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, or Plone. Experience in Google Apps, including but not limited to Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Drive and Gmail. Experience designing graphical elements of web applications. Extensive experience with audio and video codecs and image file formats. Experience working on a variety of projects simultaneously. Experience creating rapid prototypes for projects. Experience evaluating the usability of web user interfaces.

Preferred Experience:
University-level teaching and professional experience in educational technology. Experience in cultivating digital communities. Prefer experience developing dynamic websites with CSS, XHTML, XML, JavaScript, and Ajax. Experience working with Photoshop, Illustrator, and other graphics development tools. Experience with Final Cut Pro or Avid digital video editing software. Experience with data visualization tools. Experience with the Sakai LMS as well as Blackboard, Moodle, and/or Canvas. Experience developing websites and implementing graphic design work on the web required. Experience developing and supporting complex, data-driven projects in a LAMP environment.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated effectiveness in designing, developing, and delivering online courses Knowledge of the use of course management systems Ability to convey the affordances of technology in education. Familiarity with collaborative learning technologies. Must be comfortable working with the following client-based operating systems: Apple Mac and iOS, MS Windows, and Android.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of assessment theories and strategies as well as the ways in which they have been implemented with technology in education; Knowledge of the computer game industry from a technical, theoretical, and educational perspective. Familiarity with Web 2.0 technologies such as Ajax and Google APIs. Knowledge of ODK, Google App Engine, Fusion Tables, Google Refine, and other Google tools for data management, analysis and visualization. Experience with Mathworks' Matlab and Wolfram's Mathematica. Experience with GIS tools, ESRI ARC GIS and Google Earth Pro especially. Knowledge of statistical software, especially R and SPSS. Familiarity working with Python, PHP and relational databases (i.e. MySQL, SQLite).

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $59,000.00 to USD $109,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
