The Assistant Director for Service and Civic Engagement primarily focuses on being responsible for programs and initiatives within the Center for Student Life that support and advance NYU's commitment to service, outreach, civic engagement, service learning, and leadership development. Work with CSL leadership team to set the vision and strategy relating to service and civic engagement and play a lead role in the creation, implementation, and management of programs designed to enhance local and global leadership and service experiences for NYU students. Initial priorities for this position may include, but are not limited to: voter education initiatives to promote civic engagement and increase the number of NYU students participating in voting, experiential service-learning, such as the Alternative Breaks Program, Project OutReach (a pre-orientation program and social impact program), and volunteer engagement opportunities. This role manages the selection, training, and supervision of student staff, site leaders, site advisors, and peer mentors. Serves as the primary point of contact within the Division of Student Affairs for service and civic engagement related topics and represents these initiatives to external constituents. Works collaboratively with other members of the CSL staff, Office of Civic Engagement, Office for Community and Government Affairs, and external community organizations. Works closely with the Office of Risk Management to evaluate contracts and coordinate travel.
