Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Employee & Labor Relations, this position performs a wide variety of duties related to contract administration; contract negotiations; grievance and arbitration issues; and employee relation concerns including, but not limited to, providing definitive direction, interpretative guidance and support to schools and administrative units on multiple collective bargaining agreements; policy and procedure compliance (including acting as the principal point of contact for oversight and enforcement of the University’s Protection of Minors Policy); and adherence to local, state and federal laws governing employment practices. 

Qualifications

Required Education
Master's Degree in a related field
 
Required Experience
10+ years of significant labor management and employee relations, and compliance experience in both union and non-union environments. 
 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge, technical mastery, skill and judgment in the application of relevant federal, state and local employment and labor laws and regulations, as well as current and emerging laws and policies pertaining to protections afforded to minors. Effective consulting skills to identify problems and recommend solutions. Excellent written verbal and presentation considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships across the University. Strong leadership skills. A team player with superior ability to work independently. Familiarity with the uses of systems, databases, data analysis and modeling as management tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. 
 
Preferred Education
Juris Doctorate (J.D.)
 
Preferred Experience
1+ years Experience working in compliance. Experience in working in a college or university setting or large complex not for profit organization.
 
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Creating, developing and implementing training programs on a full range of human resource and employee relations topics to diverse management teams.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $165,000 - $215,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
