The Communications Manager provides strategic planning and oversight of high-visibility or high-impact strategic university communication plans and oversees the delivery of senior leadership communications on behalf of the Digital Communications Group and University Relations and Public Affairs. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Communications Manager is a skilled communicator, technologist, and project manager, with a creative approach, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate complex dynamics and numerous projects’ deadlines, all with the capacity to build consensus amongst key stakeholders and fellow team members. As a tech-savvy communications professional, this position oversees and executes the planning, content development, design, and delivery of targeted strategic digital, print, and marketing communications in coordination within fellow team members and university partners ensuring consistency of messaging and branding to key constituencies across the globe. Additionally, this position manages one full-time employee responsible for the delivery of senior university leadership communications and strategic guidance of Digital Communications’ analytics service.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree Communications, Marketing/Advertising, Media Technology, or similar.
Required Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience delivering high-level digital communications. Demonstrated results developing and coordinating the successful delivery of complex project plans.
Preferred Experience: 5+ years experience in higher education and/or large non-profit setting and working with senior leadership of an organization.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent organization, consultative, and verbal/written communication skills. Proven creative/design sensibilities and savviness interacting with both fellow colleagues and executive-level individuals. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively multi-task large scale projects. Ability to adapt and achieve success with changing work flows and priorities. Ability to successfully interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels and build consensus. Strong proofreading and editing skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a small team. Self-starter with ability to maintain their own schedule and task lists and to conduct their own troubleshooting and problem-solving activities before escalating to a supervisor. Knowledge of standard office and creative software, HTML/popular content management systems and bulk email tools. Knowledge of higher education and related geo-political and social challenges impacting institutions and their communication strategies.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Experience working on a university-wide communications plan. Ideal candidates will also have experience with printed communication/give-away materials, mobile app components (possibly including push notifications), exposure to marketing and advertising implementation, and social media communication strategy.
