Arts and Science is seeking a talented Department Manager to join the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis. This individual will manage fiscal, academic and administrative operations for complex medium- to large-sized academic department that houses 10 academic programs and 3 initiatives. Work closely with Chair and executive committee to develop strategies to meet short and long-term departmental goals. Manage a broad and complex variety of programs and funding sources to ensure effective and efficient office operations and the delivery of budgetary, financial, administrative, and technical services. Manage and develop staff of 5 direct reports and manage the inter-departmental cohesion of administrative teams on the floor. Manage preparation of financial reports and direct projects for department; develop departmental budget; manage and control expenditures. Act as administrative liaison with other school and University offices and departments to coordinate support for cross appointed faculty (50% of faculty); interpret and apply University policies to plan and manage complex administrative matters. Provide insight, present options and hold a clear vision of the big picture and how administrative decisions will impact the future of the department.
Required Education:
Master's Degree in Public Administration, Higher Education or related field.
Required Experience:
5+ years relevant administrative experience or equivalent combination. Must include experience supervising departmental operations and staff and administering budgets.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in higher education or non-profit environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to problem solve, interpret financial information, and interact with individuals at all levels. Excellent interpersonal and writing skills. Familiarity with accounting fundamentals, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Ability to support department in vision building and strategic planning.
