Position Summary

The Academic Advisor serves as a member of the first-year advising team, helping students to articulate their academic goals and develop meaningful educational plans. The Academic Advisor will advise a caseload of undergraduate students on a wide range of academic issues, facilitating individual and group sessions throughout the academic year. In addition, the Academic Advisor works with departmental advisors and other university offices to increase student retention. The Academic Advisor will also assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of students.


Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Development, Education or a related field

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Social Work or related area

Required Experience:
2+ years related experience in an educational setting

Preferred Experience:
2+ years Administrator in a higher education setting. Experience with academic support programs is preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Student Development theories is a plus. Ability to work as an integral member of a team is critical. Experience working with databases.
