Manage and execute day-to-day technical operations for the Collaborative Arts and the Open Arts programs, including all technology, media, audio and video systems, IT, fabrication lab, equipment needs. Develop and implement operational policies and practices. Create learning materials and train faculty and students on all equipment and technology. Attend and manage all technical support for program events and projects. Stay up to date on developments in the industry and make recommendations for new equipment, hardware and software platforms that will be necessary to support the academic needs of the department. Supervise equipment inventory, purchase, repair, maintenance, and distribution. Serve as department liaison for NYU IT and manage computer hardware and software for office staff, classrooms, and faculty: troubleshoot and solve IT related problems. Act as liaison with other School, University and industry offices; interpret and apply University policies, practices and procedures to address complex administrative matters; Supervise staff and students.
Bachelor's Degree in a related field: media arts, production, art, computer science.
3+ years Audio/visual facility operations management and staff supervision experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include proficiency with a wide range of both audio and visual technologies and fabrication tools. Must be proficient in a wide range of computer operating systems and software.
3+ years in a technical academic environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and project management skills. Ability to communicate policies and procedures to individuals at all levels and use problem solving and negotiating skills. Proficiency with a wide range of current and legacy audio visual technologies; ability to assess and repair complex equipment, including projectors, cameras and analog and digital audio equipment. Working knowledge and experience in DIY and maker market and/or advanced manufacturing or rapid prototyping including 3D printers, laser cutter, CNC, lathes, PCB fabrication and test. Ability to operate, assess and maintain a wide range of computer operating systems, to evaluate, install and troubleshoot a wide range of software. Ability to absorb complex technical information and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of current and emerging technologies related to audio visual exhibition and study. Must understand data collection and management.
